home interior redesign.

This project took an existing two-story heritage-listed Victorian Home that had to be redesigned on the interior for practical living for a family of four. The existing ground floor kitchen, laundry and bath were to be demolished and replaced by a new 75780 x 5240mm extension. Building restrictions were to be considered in the space planning process. The front facade of the house was to be kept the same; the fireplace and stairs could not be removed. In the brief, the client requested the new design have the following: two separate bedrooms for the kids, laundry, WC (water closet), ensuite, bathroom, open plan kitchen and dining space.

With these considerations, multiple variations of space planning drafts were created till a layout design that achieves maximum usage of the space and considers daily ergonomics was achieved.

The final design achieves all outlined requirements of the client while also adding function spaces such as a multi-purpose room that can be used as an office, guest room or leisure space and an extra WC on the ground floor for guests. Storage was a focus in the layout of bedrooms as floor-to-ceiling wardrobes were designed.

living room.

The design intention behind the living room was to create a space that allows for interaction between family and guests, with a more playful seating arrangement that seeks to display variation. The aesthetic style of the space is a result of blending inspiration from Mid-Century Modern furniture with Japanese minimalism concepts and principles.

master bedroom.

For the Master Bedroom, the intention was to create a low-set and cosy space that utilised geometric shapes and clean lines. Material choice from the rest of the home’s interior was implemented to keep harmony throughout the entirety of the property. Materials emphasise the motive to incorporate natural materials such as bamboo, oak, and walnut. Fabrics are lighter in their tones, allowing for a light and airy feeling that is created by natural light coming into the space and being diffused. Paper lamps allow for this diffused light effect to be carried into the evening.

bedroom two (kids).

The concept behind the Kids Bedroom was to blend the elements of natural materials throughout the room in a light-hearted and warming way. I’ve opted for lighter tones of wood with bamboo flooring with oak and pine furniture to give a harmonious and cosy feel.  Fabrics in the room are soft whites, creating an airy and light feeling that allows natural light to softly diffuse into the space.

dining room.

This dining room was curated with the intention to keep minimal and having an almost empty and spacious feeling. By selecting low-set and minimal furniture, the wide glass window and sliding glass door view of the outdoors is utilised. When roller blinds are covering this view, the open space allows for an open aired and isolated feeling for the guest dining in the space, with the overhead pendant paper lamp, a warm, soft glow draws attention to this specific middle space like a candle in a dark room.
